Our story
The story behind Heartbreak Hotel
My name is Erik, born in 1988 in Gelsenkirchen, a city often described as the poorest in Germany, which is probably true. My childhood and adolescence were anything but ordinary. At twelve, I was expelled from high school not because I wasn’t smart enough, but because I already had a mind of my own.
It was a tough time, and I had to learn early on that life isn’t always fair.
After secondary school, at 16 I finally found my first foothold: an apprenticeship as an automotive mechatronics technician. Three tough years in which I learned to create something tangible with my hands a skill that still shapes me today. At just 20, I took the plunge: my own business. I imported cars from the USA, restored them, and brought them back to life. It was a dream my dream. But success comes at a price. At 27, a family crisis forced me to leave everything behind. Everything I had built fell apart. And yet, this very break was my new beginning.

The Beginning of Something Different

a new home.
With BLACOON , a lifestyle brand for art, street art, and tattoos, I wanted to create a feeling, a way of life. I built online shops, designed fashion and accessories, and provided other artists with everything they needed. But despite all the success, there were always moments when I lost my footing. Setbacks that brought me to the brink. In those dark hours, I often sought refuge in nature. The untouched wilderness of Scandinavia, the rugged fjords of Norway that was where I found myself again. In 2022, I made the decision: I would leave everything behind. I would emigrate to Norway and create a place where people like me creatives, seekers, and nature lovers—could find their home.
